electricfelix updates - Issue #11

Six weeks in the world of EV feels like a full season. Welcome to February 2021 updates of electricfelix!

I spoke about Fastned & EnBW last month, but what happened soon after my newsletter: the announcement! Now that you can use the EnBW badge at Fastned, this opens up a world of possibilities.

The bad news: right now it seems EnBW is only looking for DACH-region users. Why? I do not know, and I recommend you to tell EnBW to open up their service to people anywhere in Europe!

The soft launch of Tango Electric. High Power Charging offered by Tango

(Q8). They built a first petrol station including HPC's by Efacec. Next to

two regular petrol supplying units, the third pillar of the station is

offering pure electrons! An amazing moment if you ask me. Will Tango build

more fast charging infrastructure in The Netherlands, and will Q8 Easy in

Belgium see the same change?

When I wrote the Tango Electric blog a year ago(!) little did I know the network would expand in The Netherlands and stay free for over 300 days running. I'm not sure what's going on and writing this will probably jinx it, but as my new Dutch charging guide has told many readers: this is where the free juice is still available!

Cheaper fast charging at Ionity! Find the best charging cards and apps to

use when charging up at Ionity after the newly introduced kWh based pricing

model

Speaking of "charging up on the cheap", Baden-Baden (DE) has been supplying a VERY cheap deal in 2021 so far, as the regular reader of my IONITY page (link above) would've known a while ago. Unfortunately it's going to end the 1st of March which means it's gotten a step harder again to find that competitive edge when charging up at IONITY. Who knows what summer brings.

Cheap fast charging elsewhere

Lucky you, depending on where you live & drive there are many options outside of the IONITY network.

The French will be happy to hear TOTAL is expanding services around the country, even though it's not going crazy fast (just yet).

The good news is, opposed to the deal in The Netherlands, with the ChargePoint badge you can get a jolly good deal (for 50kW charging) at Total EV Charge in France, enjoy the offer while it lasts!

Cheaper EV fast charging around Europe. Find the best deal at Allego, EnBW,

Fastned, Ionity, Innogy and other European Fast charging destinations.

The first blog is up about my Audi e-tron 55 charging experiences on The Road to Normandy. Taking the #chargingmonster to somewhat of a French Charging Desert, will always lead to an interesting journey!

My first Audi e-tron 55 (2019) roadtrip to France. Charging up at Fastned Ostende for the very first time. Paying close attention to the charging curve and all (working and non working) infrastructure on the way to Normandy.

#vanlife

Recently I had the chance to try the 47kWh battery powered Mercedes-Benz eSprinter out. When SoC (State of Charge) got nice and low, I went over to Fastned Tafelbergweg (foodstrip Amsterdam) and what a surprise it was!

Met Nerds Om Tafel

In January I was invited to speak about electric vehicles on air, the Dutch Met Nerds Om Tafel people had me over and we talked about Taycan, Energica and anything in between, thanks for having me!

Fast charging Germany

EnBW had a free fast charging day to celebrate their 500th #hypernetz location (plus it was a great way to see what their network could handle, in some places their chargers helped out over a hundred of EV drivers in one location that day).

That's not all (EnBW wants to have one thousand fast charging locations at the end of the year in Germany!)

ARAL also announced it's really starting now, mimicking bp pulse which has been going on in the UK for a while already.

ARAL pulse will be the German speaking department. They aim for 500 chargers (at 120 locations) for the end of the year.

16.02.2021: Unter der neuen E-Marke 'Aral pulse' entstehen bis Ende 2021 in Deutschland 500 Ladepunkte an über 120 Tankstellen.

Fast charging France

A huge announcement in France recently: end of 2022 the plan is to have 150kW chargers at every rest stop (aire) in the country. I have to see it to believe it of course, but I'm loving the sound of it.

About Damn Time too.

Rental deals

Amazing news by Sixt Amsterdam (NL).

The EQV is now available to rent! Can't wait to try this out, where do we go!!

Cool URL's

Did you miss it? It's back!

I love to keep an eye out on the fast charging scene of Germany, without a doubt fastest growth in the EU right now! See:

If you don't like the layout, or want to look outside of Germany too, there's Moovility! https://www.moovility.me/ I mentioned them in the past but a) they are doing great work b) they updated their filters with a DC CCS parks option, EU wide!

Pricing of (fast) charging, never a dull moment, see Chargeprice!

The app Ladefuchs is now out of beta! https://ladefuchs.app/

Did you know even in recent months people signed up for the electricfelix club and received personal travel advice? A brand new ID.3 made it home safe to NL from Paris and the IONIQ (38kWh model) that doesn't charge as fast as the older 28kWh version drove all the way from Barcelona to London.

I love the feeling of travel, even when I'm just assisting other road warriors out there! Looking for personal advice on your next adventure? Head over to my patreon page or petje.af if you prefer a Dutch speaking platform.

Back in March!

Oh, if you're reading this on Sunday, it's not too late to check my Polarsteps: I'm doing the #carverchallenge riding this 5kWh battery powered three wheel beast over to Utrecht along the beautiful local roads.
